Deb Kittay-Heffler
ARTIST STATEMENT
I love to get swept away in the moment and work intuitively driven by my sixth sense. I respond to color, texture, emotion and movement. Spontaneity and the moment motivate me! I often integrate collage materials like papers, cardboard, fabric and ephemera into my work, as well as paint, pastel and inks.
BIO
Deborah Kittay-Heffler studied art at NYU and earned a Master Degree in Art Therapy. When working with psychiatric patients on a geriatric ward of a state run psychiatric hospital, Deborah realized that asking schizophrenic patients who had been hospitalized for over 40 years to draw their feelings, did not produce more than faint lines. She began to provide magazines and the patients were motivated to use the ready made pictures to tell their stories. Thus was born Deb’s interest in collage. Deborah has shown in several juried shows in the area, as well as the Hudson Valley Moca.
