Kelly Kingman
Artist Statement
Each of my drawings is, de facto, an artefact of the passage of time and my engagement with the materials. I see them therefore as kinds of fossils — the residue of my interaction with surfaces, textures, color and line. I gravitate to inks, watercolor, acrylic pens, graphite but am especially interested in found and repurposed materials. I've started experimenting with making my own ink. Instead of starting with a vision which I then execute, I like to let the materials coalesce, as though I am funneling, straining and recombining elements in a kind of alchemical process.
